San Francisco War Memorial

San Francisco

Overview

Renovating and restoring the San Francisco War Memorial brought life back to a historic structure in need of repair. In 1989, the Veterans Building was damaged in the Loma Prieta earthquake. Fast forward to 2015, the team used a system of rocking concrete shear walls to complete the upgrade, eliminating the need for deep foundations and lowering the force on each wall.

At completion, the $99 million project established a revived stage and venue for The Arts and Veterans Organizations. Other parts of the property include the San Francisco Arts Commission Gallery and the 916-seat Herbst Theatre, featuring new tech and performer amenities for the ideal concert and lecture space.
