By going against the grain,” KHS&S Contractors’ talented force of artisans were able to develop a realistic alternative for the red cedar exterior finish on Snoqualmie Casino.
As with most projects, KHS&S was faced with multiple challenges. This project’s significant challenge was the amount of cedar required so the group developed an efficient and durable alternative to a red cedar treatment. Typically, craftsmen would use real cedar, cement board or a carved plaster system, but all have limited applications in size, texture and color.
Using EIFS and a mixture of artistic stains and washings, the synthetic cedar gives the appearance of real cedar, but none of the limitations, which can include high cost and high maintenance. The synthetic cedar, which has been extremely well received by esteemed designers, architects and other professionals in the trade, is resistant to the weather and natural environment in the Seattle area.
Interior and exterior framing, fireproofing, EIFS system with faux wood grain Dryvit finish, and interior and exterior cultured stone. Interior finishes include 60’ x 16’ copper clad canopies, trim and millwork, special finishes that include wood grain wall covering and faux paint. Interiors also include a faux tongue-and-metal-groove ceiling system, acoustical ceiling tile and framed and decorative ceilings and paint; interior and exterior decorative handrail with faux finish, interior ornamental metal with faux finish and interior water features.
